Wedding Season: Houston Fairytale

Music, lighting, the perfect Carolina Herrera strapless gown—weddings are a thousand small decisions that add up to one extraordinary day. In this ongoing series, The Inside Source talks to brides who leaned heavily on eBay on their way to the alter. Our third installment features a style director, an architect and their fairytale Houston wedding.

Who: Melissa Liebling-Goldberg, style director of People.com, to John Barrett, an intern architect at Polshek Partnership

How They Met: “At a co-worker’s housewarming party.”

The Proposal: “He proposed at the Standard Hotel, which his firm designed. He surprised me with a room for the night and dinner that he picked up at our favorite restaurant, Dumont in Brooklyn. It was so romantic and perfect.”

The Mood: “Fairytale forest in an ultra-modern space.”

The Palette: “Ivory, black and silver with touches of pale green.”

The Location: “The Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston.”

She's Wearing: “A strapless, ivory Carolina Herrera dress with hairpieces from Jennifer Behr in lieu of a veil.”

He's Wearing: “A custom suit and shirt from 13 and Hudson, which is designed by my brilliant friend Andrew Paluba of Rebecca and Drew Manufacturing, and a custom tie made by Bacon Neckwear from fabric we picked out at Mood.”

The Flowers: “Green tea roses and white roses for the bouquets.”

The Menu: “I wanted everything to be yummy and homey. The appetizers are haute junk food with a southern twist: mini sliders, fried green tomatoes, truffle mac and cheese bites, pigs in blankets. And the main courses are similar with some Italian thrown in: arugula ravioli, fried chicken with fries, poached salmon with antipasti salads.”

The Playlist: “A mix of hip-hop for us and Motown favorites for my parents. And, we can't forget the '90s favorites that bring my college years rushing back. Who's ready to ride that train?”
