Trend Alert: Tribal Prints

In current climate, lavish travel to distant locations isn't always fiscally feasible, which is why this season's tribal trend is so welcome. Armed with February issues of my favorite fashion magazines, I can live vicariously by traveling to the exotic locales that fashion designers are visiting on their spring vacations. Designer Dries Van Noten played with Asian influenced block prints and silks from Bali; Marc Jacobs went full throttle with bold color and African motifs for Marc by Marc Jacobs; and Diane von Furstenberg's nomad-themed collection looked to the Egyptian desert. At Gucci, Frida Gianina included a folkloric ikat print in an otherwise athletic lineup.

Kristina Dechter, Editor In Chief of gorgeous surfer girl magazine Foam says, "What I love about the tribal print trend for spring is the ability to mix and match different textures' it's so luxe and vibrant! Don't go over board, but look for different scales and color schemes. Try a bold printed full skirt, paired with a more subdued tank.”  Generally, the prints and colors are so energetic that if you want to try the trend, you can stick with simpler silhouettes like tunics, shift dresses and shell tops. If the prints feel overwhelming, try working in an accent piece like a scarf or necklace.
