The Spanish Mile

Thanks to the internet, we now seem to literally have the fashion world at our fingertips. Global designers are accessible like never before. And yet with Japanese denim lines a mere click away from an authentic Brazilian bikini, some of the cultural relevance of the clothes gets lost. In its fifth year, the Spanish Mile, a retail event showcasing Spanish designers—both established and up-and-coming—in NYC's Soho district, offers the chance to see, touch and buy current goods coming out of Spain all in one place. The event took place on June 17, and The Inside Source was there to check out the Spanish treasures, particularly the shoes.

Shoe designers such as Biviel, Chie Mihara, Pretty Ballerinas, Pura Lopez, and Sendra are all members of the Spanish Trade Commission, though their lines are very different, offering flats, comfort styles, evening shoes, even rough-and-tumble boots. Shoes were shown over drinks and hors d'oeuvres from NYC’s Spanish tapas restaurant Boqueria, with live music from Spanish acoustic guitar player Cristian Puig.
