Stylist Sally Lyndley’s New Year's Shopping Resolutions

Sally LyndleySally Lyndley’s resume reads like a dream. The former runway show producer always wanted to be a fashion stylist, so nearly a decade ago she took a job assisting the legendary Marie Amelie Sauve, who has worked with international Vogues, Balenciaga and others.

Soon enough, then Editor-in-Chief Katie Grand enlisted Lyndley to be an editor at POP magazine. These days, Sally Lyndley runs her own fashion stylist business, consulting for celebrities and brands like Victoria Beckham and Costello Tagliapietra, and styling photo shoots for LOVE magazine, Teen Vogue, Numero Japan, and U.S. Vogue.

We recently caught up with the fashion superstar, who let us in on her New Year’s shopping resolutions.

The Inside Source: You own your own fashion styling business and are working on several projects at a timewhen do you typically have time to shop for yourself?

Sally Lyndley: I shop for myself usually while I am shopping for my clients (because great fashion is still pretty hard to find online)... or at night online.

The Inside Source: Do you like to shop online? If so, do you ever shop on eBay, either personally or to find things for work?

Sally Lyndley: I love online shopping because it's kind of like magicyou can find almost anything you dream up and then have it delivered to your front door. I love eBay for vintage fashion and art for my walls. I found this amazing print of a pinup Pocahontas that's on the wall in my bedroom right now. I have also been finding gorgeous vintage wardrobe trunks and steamer trunks for a research project. I am keeping them after the project is over to decorate my living room.

The Inside Source: Are there any special must-have items you're determined to find this year that you couldn't find last year?

Sally Lyndley: Superior chalk. I recently painted my office walls with chalkboard paint and I am having a really tough time trying to find chalk to use on them that doesn't break or squeak when you write with it. I am also super into vintage jewelry at the moment, especially Victorian baby rings, Tahitian pearl rings, and Bakelite bangles. And Hermés bangles.

The Inside Source: Are there any items or categories you're determined to stay away from as part of your New Year's shopping resolution Why?

Sally Lyndley: Anything that is trendy, that I wouldn't want to have for the rest of my life! I am super eco-conscious and I try to stay far away from super disposable or "fast" fashion purchases. When I am working with my wardrobe, a client's wardrobe or decorating my own house, I always step back before I purchase something and ask myself "Do I want to have this for the rest of my life? Is it a timeless piece? Or is it throw-away?" It helps me make all of my purchases worth the money!
