Preloved: A Perfectly Green Partnership

Preloved, Fall 2010 Fashion Week (YouTube)

What's old is new again—literally. (And no, we're not talking about the return of stonewashed denim and stirrup pants.) Some of today's most lauded fashion designers are finding newand stylish waysto recycle clothing and rescue textiles that would have otherwise gone straight to the garbage dump.

We've already shared a few of these eco-friendly fashion stories of "upcycling," as the process is often called: At Crate Denim, for example, designer Chat Hilton hand-produces his pants, shirts and jackets out of dead stock denimleftover fabric no longer produced by mills that never made it into original clothing designs. That means that the denim fashions you purchase from Crate Denim today were perhaps originally manufactured years ago for clothing companies such as Levi Strauss or Wrangler.

PrelovedSimilarly, at ReMade USA, accessory designer Shannon South and her team source leather from thrift stores and scraps from the automotive industry in order to design and manufacture the gorgeous designer recycled bags she sells at Barneys and other upscale boutiques.

Now, eBay has jumped on the fashion trend bandwagon via a partnership with Canadian designer Preloved. Preloved creates one-of-a-kind clothing from reclaimed, vintage fabrics and proudly designs and manufactures everything in Canada. The capsule collection for eBay, featuring one-of-a-kind clothing, is available on eBay starting today.
