Pop Culture-Inspired New Year's Party Part 1: Ballet Ball

New Year’s Eve is the perfect occasion for over-the-top party planning. We’ve put together three party theme ideas inspired by media and movie blitzes, from the most buzzed-about marriage to be, a serious Oscar contender, and an upcoming classic fairytale made darkly modern. All translate easily into stylish New Year's Eve party ideas that we think will persist long after midnight. The first: the ballet ball.

While the Nutcracker is the traditional ballet of the holiday season, "Black Swan," starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, is based on young dancers vying for an altogether different role. And while the tumultuous film is dark, it also sparkles. And with the white and black palette, not to mention all the of-the-moment feathers in performance costumes designed by Rodarte, the thriller begs for re-invention as a formal affair. With masks, tulle, and a feather-embellished ball gown, this would absolutely be a New Year's Eve party to remember.
