Orange and Black Fashion: Not Just for Halloween

Plenty of designers embraced orange and black combinations for their Fall 2011 collections. Among them: Marc Jacobs by Marc Jacobs (photo by Karl Prouse/Catwalking/Getty Images), BCBG Max Azria (photo by Thomas Concordia/Contributor), Burberry Prorsum (photo by Chris Moore/Catwalking/Getty Images)
Halloween is just days away. But if the mere thought of dressing in costume has you more spooked than being trapped inside a horror movie marathon, we've got a proposition for you: Try embracing the holiday’s traditional colors of orange and black without sacrificing an ounce of style. Turns out plenty of designers offered inspiration for doing so with their fall 2011 collections.
Orange has been a mainstay on the runways for several seasons now. With the addition of black this time around, it becomes... not scary, but stylish—a striking (and legitimately trendy) choice. Sonia Rykiel showed s bold neon orange and nude colorblocked dress with a feathery black coat on top; Max Azria paired similarly sharp orange hues with black and browns in vertical color-blocks; and Marc Jacobs (for Marc by Marc Jacobs) and Christopher Bailey for Burberry Prorsum showed more subdued (but no less statement-making) pumpkin shades. Orange was woven into tribal print dresses at D&G and appeared in a lush velvet tunic at Proenza Schouler.
It's all proof that you can test drive orange and black without resorting to jack-o-lanterns... and even tacky tiger stripes.
