Cher Style Retrospective
Cher, mentioning the name alone is enough to leave her ageless fan base breathless with long-winded vows of devotion. At the age of 64, the legendary star is still performing sold out shows at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Her career spans five decades and has seen more personal reinventions than we’re able to count: from her flower child beginnings opposite Sonny Bono, through her scandalously unclad “If I Could Turn Back Time” video, to the elaborate Bob Mackie-designed costumes she wears for her show today. She’s never been one to curb her outspoken nature for the sake of convention—which is what’s kept us (and the rest of the world) on the edge of our seats anxiously awaiting her next big move—or outfit.
The relentless humanitarian recently teamed up with eBay's Giving Works program to auction off VIP tickets to see her last show of the summer on July 4th, where you’ll go backstage to meet her, sip champagne and leave with a few choice souvenirs. All proceeds from the sale are going to The Heroes Project, a non-profit organization that works to support war veterans, soldiers and their families. 1972 - A barefoot Cher with her signature stick-straight hair, wearing a floor-skimming dressing gown with then-husband, Sonny Bono. 1972 - Cher's first foray into extravagant headgear for the Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour. 1973 - Cher donning a mid-riff baring, Native American-inspired ensemble at the premiere of Bernardo Bertolucci's film, Last Tango in Paris. 1979 - Roller-skating in a sheer sequin top and spandex pants in New York City at the Casablanca Records Party. 1982- Cher performs on American Bandstand, rocking cheetah pants and a gravity-defying perm. 1986- Her fascination with feathered headpieces continues at the 58th Annual Academy Awards ceremony. 1988- This Cleopatra-inspired ensemble is actually Cher's Halloween costume. We know it's hard to tell. 1988- Cher wearing a graffiti-inspired blazer in New York City. 1988- Cher in her notorious "If I Could Turn Back Time" video one of the first music videos to be banned by MTV wearing a leather thong and sheer tights. 1992- Cher performing in London in a leather and chain one-piece. 2002- Cher performing in Los Angeles on her Farewell Tour. 2010- At the 38th Annual AFI Lifetime Achievement Awards honoring Mike Nichols, the director of her first critically acclaimed film, Silkwood.The Cher Timeline:
