Trendlet Alert: Mushroom Madness

Major design movements swing from one season to the next, but who has the time (or the money?) to replace all of your recessed lighting with statement chandeliers? We're more interested in "trendlets," easily accessible micro-trends that allow you to add minor updates and present as though you’re in-the-know. We did the work, tracing the trends’ pop culture roots in order to provide a primer for what we’re certain will be the year’s hottest home accessories. Our series of five can't miss trendlets launches today.
The look: Kitschy mushrooms in all incarnations, from pillows to pillboxes.
Seen in: Tim Burton’s upcoming Alice in Wonderland. The film, which opens March 5, is causing quite the style stir, spurring makeup and jewelry collections and a moody aesthetic celebrated in an edgy fashion layout starring Alice herself, actress Mia Wasikowska, in this month’s Marie Claire. While the styles are a little bit dark, we expect home accessories to touch on the more playful side of the story.
Loved by: Crafters are loving the handmade “mushroom” loot. Collectors are smitten too. There are plenty of vintage specimens on eBay as well.
