TIS Most Wanted: Our eBay Picks of the Week (April 26, 2011)

1. DeVilbiss Gold Plate Crackle Glass Perfume Atomizer: It’s likely impossible to choose a new scent for your mom as a Mother's Day gift, so how about treating her to an antique atomizer that she can fill with her favorite perfume? They look lovely on a dressing table; it could be the start of an antique keepsake collection. (eBay search keywords: perfume atomizer)

2. Flower Headband: While the Kentucky Derby inspires many to don full-blown, monster-brimmed hats, we lament the inevitable result: hat head. Opt for a fascinator hat instead. If new to the hat game, you can start with a trendy headband sporting an overblown adornment. (eBay search keyword: fascinator)

3.  Orla Kiely Multi Direction Stem Print Shoulder Bag: This London-based Irish fashion designer, who we know for her wallets and bags, has recently partnered with French automaker Citroën on a limited edition collection of DS3 cars, which sport Orla Kiely signature patterns on the roof. (eBay search keywords: Orla Kiely)

4. Pierre Hardy Platform Black Suede Sandals: While we’re avid fans of Pierre Hardy x Gap shoe styles—the ankle strap pumps for spring just hit—we still ogle the real Pierre Hardy shoes. These delicate knockouts—they come complete with their own ankle plume!—retailed for $1200. (eBay search keywords: Pierre Hardy.)

5. Iron Garden Bench with Twig Design: This weekend, the New York Botanical Garden hosts its annual Antique Garden Furniture Show, an exhibition known for attracting the country's most important dealers of garden antiques. While most of what's on sale is out of our league, we found this charming bench on eBay online auctions. (eBay search keywords: garden furniture)

6. Gertrude Stein Photograph: This black and white portrait of frumpily fashioned writers Gertrude Stein and Alice Toklas evokes the era superbly. For a deeper delve, next month the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco mounts “Seeing Gertrude Stein: Five Stories.” (eBay search keywords: Gertrude Stein)

7. Double Peony 'Edulis Superba': Roses have become so expected. We much prefer the much more lush peony. This double pink, globe-shaped specimen is fragrant and excellent for cutting. (eBay search keyword: peony)

8. Dale Chihuly Glass Coral Basket with Gold Wrap: The blown art glass exhibit “Chihuly: Through the Looking Glass” is currently on display at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. This Dale Chihuly glass basket is a gorgeous signed piece from 1998,that looks to be spun with gold. (eBay search keywords: Chihuly)

9. Aluminum Purple Martin 18-Room Bird House: In spring, “tweet” is simply a sound made by birds. The population of Purple Martins, the largest of the swallows in North America, depends on specially designed wood or aluminum birdhouses, like this one. (eBay search keywords: purple martin bird house)

10. 14k White Gold Pink Solitaire Diamond Ring: You may think them gauche, but colored diamonds, particularly pink ones, are setting records. This past fall, Sotheby’s Geneva set a world auction record with the sale of the 24.78-ct. Graff Pink for $46.15 million. On May 17, the auction house will offer a 10.99-ct. pink diamond that hasn’t been on the market for more than 30 years. Estimated value: $9 to $16 million. Our recommendation? Go faux. (eBay search keywords: pink diamond)

11. Life-size Sheep Statue: Inspired by New York interior designer Fawn Galli’s own living room, in which grazes a glossy black stag, we’re coveting some animals of our own. Fawn Galli says, "Life size animals that add a bit of fantasy to my decor." (eBay search keywords: life-size animals)

12. Sonia Delaunay “Man Smoking a Pipe”: Jewish-French artist Sonia Delauney was known for her strong use of color and geometry in her painting and textile designs. In 1964 she was the first living female artist to have a retrospective at the Louvre. “Color Moves: Art and Fashion by Sonia Delaunay” is at the Copper Hewitt in New York until mid-June. (eBay search keywords: Sonia Delaunay)
