Dear Santa: Kelly Hoppen's Holiday Give and Get List
Our Series on What Today's Top Stylemakers Plan to Give—and Hope to Get!—for the Holidays
Interior designer Kelly Hoppen cultivates a decorating style that is at once spare and opulent; think minimalist luxe. The look works well for both private and commercial spaces, and Kelly Hoppen pretty much designed them all, from apartments, houses, and yachts to hotels, restaurants, offices, and aircraft interiors. These days, though her home base is London, she's working on interior design projects in far-flung locales like Beirut, Israel, Norway, and India.
And Kelly Hoppen doesn't stop at interior design. She also churns out products including home accessories, furniture, lighting, carpets, fabrics, paints, bed linens, candles, fashion and even books. We especially love her vintage style furniture collection, like the Eames-esque black python chairs and lacquered cubes. Kelly Hoppen's firm uses eBay regularly to sell final lines of her products, and Kelly Hoppen herself has also been known to sell some of her personal goodies on eBay, especially clothing and accessories. If only we could get an alert. Sigh.
Sandwiched between her travels, creative work and eBay festivities, Hoppen teaches a five day master class course at her eponymous design school in her Notting Hill studio, and just last month launched her own blog (this writer was surprised to find her blog, Style Carrot on Kelly’s blogroll!), as well as an interactive iPhone and iPad app that offers tutorials and tips. We’ve even come across Kelly Hoppen TV on YouTube.
Kelly Hoppen's ambition must run in the family: As Hoppen herself has blogged, Actress Sienna Miller and sister Savannah are the children of her ex-husband (though she considers them her own), and have famously launched their own clothing line, twenty8twelve. Her own daughter, Natasha, owns a company that includes healthy food delivery service and wellness retreats.
Kelly Hoppen may just be the most wired interior designer we've featured. Interestingly, however, her gifts and pleasures are earthy and seductive.
What Kelly Hoppen Plans to Give (and Hopes to Get) This Holiday Season
2. Cashmere Scarf: "Cashmere is a wonderfully luxurious winter fabric, so I always think a cashmere scarf or pair of gloves is a nice gift." 3. Raw Chocolate: "I am slightly obsessed with raw chocolate at the moment. My favourite is from Ganesh Munchies; it comes in a little recycled cardboard box. It makes a lovely little gift for guests, should you host Christmas drinks." 4. Pearl Necklace: "Last Christmas, I bought a string of pearls for each of the girls in my office. I like to give gifts that one can treasure, and my staff really loves those." 5. Diptyque: "Candles are a great stocking filler or a lovely gift for a friend, This year I shall be gifting my new range of home fragrances by Welton, the scents are wonderful. I also love Jo Malone and Diptyque." 6. Dolce & Gabanna: "Anything by Dolce & Gabanna. I fall in love with the designers’ collections every season." 7. Gold Peace Sign: "There is a little shop called Asia on Ledbury Road in Notting Hill, London that has a fabulous golden retro style peace sign. I love it." 8. Hunter Boots: "I spend my weekends at my cottage in the Oxfordshire countryside, so a new pair of black Hunter Wellington Boots would be great." 9. Stacking Rings: "I love single thread rings, which are very slim, just a few millimeters thick. They are so pretty. I like to stack them on multiple fingers for the rocker chick look." 10. iPad Case: A chic Smythson iPad case, because the black Apple cases really are quite ugly, and they show dirt like you would not believe.
GIVING
1. iPhone Case: "I will be gifting my tech-wizard friends with my new iPhone app, Home Style by Kelly Hoppen. so they can get their very own Kelly Hoppen makeover."
