Browse-Athon: Vintage Wallpaper

Color Theory

Boston-based design firm Color Theory covered a master bedroom accent wall in an orange retro-inspired pattern, "Boheme" by Graham & Brown.

From the chinoiserie motifs of delicate birds and branches that first came into vogue in the mid-17th century to David Hicks geometrics and Marimekko's overblown vintage florals of the '60s to recent innovations in reproduction vintage wallpaper and the return to hand-made artisan techniques, vintage wallpaper designs are experiencing something of a renaissance. While those who grew up in the mustard and avocado vinyl-covered walls of the '70s or the Laura Ashley floral wallpaper and Ralph Lauren-type striped wallpaper of the '80s likely shied away from covering up walls in the '90s, these days, wallcoverings, as they've come to be called, are a hip and happening home décor do. eBay has a selection of vintage wallpaper styles through the ages. (Prices per roll.)
