We've Got the Creepy Crawlies

Bailey Doesn't Bark

Bailey Doesn't Bark Designs

Bailey Doesn't BarkThere’s a colony of ants on your dinner plate and a blue spider on your spoon. Sounds creepy, doesn’t it? Not when the insect-adorned tableware comes from the home and accessories company Bailey Doesn’t Bark where every piece of ceramic dinnerware, every letterpressed card and every hand-printed cushion is infused with a touch of delightful, homespun charm. Re Jin Lee, the Brazilian-bred mastermind behind Bailey Doesn’t Bark, started the company in 2008 after simply doodling on a few blank ceramic mugs and them as a set. Before that first doodle, Lee had worked exclusively in the fashion industry, first as a designer in Los Angles and then as a stylist in New York. Sketching had always been a part of her work. (And drawing is still her favorite part of her job.) But little did Lee know that her love of putting pencil to paper would help her start her own company.

Soon after her first set of ceramic mugs sold, Lee found herself registering the name Bailey Doesn’t Bark, a nod to her quiet dog, at the county clerk’s office. Since then, Lee and her team of three spend their days in their New York studio creating simple yet uniquely witty housewares and accessories. The collection—one she describes as "simple, unique and timeless with a sense of humor"—has developed a fan following on trend tracking sites from Lonny magazine to Apartment Therapy. What’s even better is that all of the Bailey Doesn’t Bark dinnerware and products are made in the U.S.A, using simple, environmentally-friendly materials and packaging. (Check out this video series to see how it's done.)

Not surprisingly for someone whose designs feature trees, flies, spiders and dots reminiscent of the ones on speckled ants, Lee says her inspiration comes from "nature, memories, my own life, and dreams." She also occasionally turns to eBay: "I love using eBay to find vintage houseware items. Just from browsing through the various listings available, I’m always able to pick up some inspiration and most often snag a deal."

As for what's up next for this enterprising creative? "I'm working on expanding my home accessories line and adding a few wearable goods!" she says.

With Bailey Doesn't Bark as a starting point, we bugged out on eBay.
