Sao Paulo Fashion Week: Street Style

Brazilian fashion is notoriously known for vibrant color, bold prints and lots of skin-baring silhouettes—both on the beach and on the streets. Sao Paulo Fashion Week, which wrapped on Friday, might not be New York or Milan, but Brazilians are nevertheless eager to prove that their style and design ranks with the best of them.
Bienal, the modern art museum that houses Sao Paulo Fashion Week, saw everything from barely there swimwear to bondage bridal wear under it's roof over. Of course, nobody does swimwear like Brazil—it's elevated to evening wear status here—and fashion labels like Agua de Coco to Cia Maritima have fancied up suits with gold straps, suspenders, cap-sleeved bikini tops and fringe. But the swimwear is only half the story. While you'd expect bold color, prints and sexy silhouettes out of Brazil (and to be sure, they were there), fashion designers tended towards cleaner silhouettes—there was relaxed menswear at Hui Clos and slouchy yet structured separates at Osklen's stand out show. Tufi Duek and Gloria Coelho emphasized crisp modern lines on tunic tops over leather leggings.

It’s winter now in Sao Paulo (and by “winter” we mean that temps drop to between 50 and 60 degrees), but off the fashion runways, Paulistas are still turning out in fearless, modern-day South American styles—though they’ve left the teeny bikinis and caftans to the models showing the spring collections. Here’s what we saw on the streets outside Sao Paulo Fashion Week. There's plenty of inspiration here, both for summer and as we transition into fall.
Tropical Color Blocking
Duh, this is Brazil. Aqua was a particularly popular color choice, as was tangerine (which showed up on lips, too). Brazilians aren’t afraid of color and peacocked in beachy hues, bold primaries, and bright neons paired together.
