10 2012 Trend Resolutions
2012 is just days away and we all know that means it’s New Year’s resolution time. But instead of hitting broken record status with promises to purge your closet or get to the gym more often, why not resolve to reconsider the ways that you do the one thing you already do pretty well: SHOP!? We have 10 resolutions that will help you bust your shopping ruts (no more skinny black jeans!) and get a jump on the trends (bubblegum pink, anyone?) that will hit stores in the coming months.
1. UNDERPINNINGS
We resolve to purchase the perfect underpinnings to embrace the enduring sheer trend. Sure, it’s perfectly acceptable to throw your basic black camisole under just about anything these days, but let’s get creative.

2. DROP EARRINGS
This year big, bold drop earrings move to #1 in the jewelry ranks, shuffling statement-making necklaces and cuffs to the side. We resolve to trade delicate boho chandeliers in favor of these chunkier, graphic styles.

3. DIGITAL PRINTS
Prints and patterns in fashion and accessories will be unavoidable in the coming year. Of all the options, (tribal, geometric and watercolor to name just a few) we resolve to acquire a digital print piece that feels totally fresh, whether a photographic print or something more abstract.

4. BUBBLEGUM PINK
Tangerine may be Pantone’s color of the year for 2012, but fashion followers have been embracing the color for several seasons already. So instead, we resolve to purchase something—anything—in another hot color for 2012: pretty bubblegum pink. It was a huge hit on the spring runways, and, unlike many citrus hues, will flatter just about any skin tone.

5. SUNGLASSES
We’re not giving up our tried and true classic eyewear, but in all honesty, we’re a little bored with aviators and Jackie-O’s. Even the colored Ray Ban Wayfarer series is feeling too a bit too familiar. So we resolve to try a new shape or color and have fun with our sunglasses this year.

6. BARE MIDRIFF
Crop tops, really? Yep. And let’s face it: this shopping resolution is yet another reason to resolve to get to the gym (before spring!). Alone or layered over another piece, the midriff-baring silhouette was huge on the runways and it seems that, like short shorts, this trend may be here to stay for a bit.

7. FLORALS
Sure, florals are a never-ending runway favorite for spring. But this year we resolve to find a floral dress that's bold and graphic. Look for dresses with slits (maxis are perfect) and double dip into the forthcoming slit skirt trend, too.

8. BAGS
We too love a classic bag in brown or black, but let’s lighten up this year and resolve to carry an everyday bag that’s a little more exciting. Skins, patterns, unexpected colors and edgy details can still work if the overall shape leans toward something timeless.

9. SPORTSWEAR
This year we resolve to hit the gym or the streets with sexy sportswear. From pretty (but sporty) anoraks to striped dresses and accessories, there are options for everyone who is ready to trade in her black sweatpants for something way more exciting.

10. PRINTED PANTS
Admit it! Like us, you have at least 10 pairs of jeans that a) you never wear or b) look exactly like another 10 pairs you own. You are a denim addict and it’s time to bust out of the rut. Think about printed pants or new colors and textures in the coming year.
