2012 Grammy Awards Style Winners
Unlike the Golden Globes, where perfectly preened celebs turned out in satiny, mermaid silhouettes and jewel tones, those who walk the red carpet at the Grammys — the only awards show of the season exclusively devoted to the music industry — tend to be a little more, well, rock and roll. At last night's show, sequins and metallics were prevalent, and while some singers opted to cover up, others showed slits up-to-here. We spotted a number of trends, most of which were showcased with impeccable style.
Illusion Lace
We credit Kate Middleton for reviving lace looks, though on red carpets they’ve been modified for added sex appeal. Fergie amped up her lace ensemble by donning a retro style black-bikini beneath an electric orange lace dress. Joy Williams went pretty conservative in black with lace illusion panel up top. Skylar Grey paired her mid-calf length white frock with a dark lip and sky high red heels.

Sparkling Nudes
For timeless Oscar-esque style we can always count on Taylor Swift to set the tone. Last night she dazzled, as usual, in a Zuhair Muhad creation she claimed ranked among her absolute favorite gowns. Miranda Lambert was overly embellished, but the toned-down palette of her dress let her pull it off. Kelly Rowland’s dress was ultra sophisticated and perfectly tailored, showing off her spectacular form.

Shimmering in Sleeves
The night’s winner, both in trophies and fashion, was definitely Adele, who brought home six awards sparkling while dressed in Armani. (Hard to believe this talented and glowing girl was dissed by Karl Lagerfield just days before, when the diva designer deigned to call her “fat.”) Carrie Underwood, who like Swift (to whom Adele lost for “Best Country Solo Performance”), can be counted on for classic glamour, didn't disappoint in a long-sleeved Gomez Garcia gown created from tulle and sequins. Katy Perry also (surprisingly) channeled Old World glamour in a similarly modest Elie Saab. She looked gorgeous, especially as her hair matched the dress.

Color-Drenched Prints
Bold, intricate, painterly prints have been runway stars for several seasons, but only now have they hit the red carpet. Serbian model Nina Senicar's drapey maxi dress was a versatile choice — it was the rare dress that looked as at-home at a Hollywood awards show as it would have for poolside cocktails. Same goes for Grammy winner and performer Melanie Fiona. Victoria's Secret Model Lily Aldridge's dressier long-sleeve Gucci number was a flattering choice for her emerging baby bump.
