While metallics have shone bright on runways for the last few years, for fall, designers' determination to make things sparkle has taken on some texture—with sequins. Once the domain of beauty queens, drag queens, and less than tasteful mother-of-the-brides, the sequin has made a comeback. But rather than spangling dresses for after hours, designers are embellishing more basic pieces. Sequins are showing up on everything from peep toe ballerina flats to otherwise ordinary tees. More importantly, sequin looks are being styled for daytime. Marc Jacobs and Dries van Noten sent models down the catwalk in loose and moody clothing, mixed with sequins. And then there's Jenna Lyons, Creative Director of J.Crew, who showed up on Oprah wearing those now famous slouchy sequined harem pants—for daytime TV. She pulled it off. You can, too: Listings for items on eBay with the term "sequins" rose 21 percent in the past 30 days vs. a 30 day period six months ago, meaning eBay sellers are making this trend easy to snag. And buyers are sure to jump in.
