HOME & GARDEN

Designers Are Talking About: Brass

After many years of chilly chrome and silver accents dominating the interiors scene, decorators all over have been warming up to brass in all its forms. San Francisco-based designer Caitlin Moran explains the appeal: "Brass is alluring to me because it has the shimmer and sensual quality of gold, but is a tad less fancy, a little more approachable.” As Moran also points out, the tawny metal is also especially versatile: “One can adore brass in so many versions...antiqued, polished, aged and blackened. I love a metal that can have so many different personalities.”

Convinced, we took to eBay, where listings of items in the Home & Garden category with the term "brass" are up 32 percent as savvy sellers seek to capitalize on this emerging trend. Our assortment of cool and offbeat housewares ranges from equine bookends with an east coast preppy vibe to a dramatic, quintessentially midcentury sculpture.

I love the comeback that brass is making. It adds so much character and interest to a space. Especially with all the different finishes you can get.
