When It's Time to Get a
New Cell Phone

Perhaps you're coveting your best friend's brand new Palm Pre (that sexy design! the animated interface!) or lamenting that your video camera-less iPhone 3G just doesn't stand up next to the 3Gs (which even has a compass). Or maybe you've dropped your phone so many times that the cracked screen simply isn't legible anymore.

It could be time to get a new cell phone.

I got it; it's a big step, and not a cheap one, either. But assuming it's in your budget, a new cell phone can change your life completely. Here are five reasons why I'd recommend taking the plunge.

1. If your phone isn't able to access the Internet, then run—don't walk—to get a new phone. One of the best things about the latest generation of cell phones it their ability to get on the web, and quickly! Why would you want to be left out?

2. Sitting in a meeting and realize you've forgotten to program your favorite TV show? There's more than an app for that: Tivo, along with most of the cable and digital satellite providers, has made it possible for you to program your DVR right from that trusty little guy in your hand.

3. Your daughter says she's going to Sally's house, but you find out later she really went to Billy's. Find out during the fact by using one of Verizon's phones loaded up with the "Family Locator," a feature that uses GPS technology to let you check up on your kids' whereabouts. Either receive a text when they got outside of your boundaries or pull up a map and see exactly where they are.

4. Is your phone not holding a charge? Or maybe the system keeps freezing? Though sometimes you can troubleshoot your way out of it, your phone is likely giving you a sign: it's on life support! Phones can last longer with proper care, but generally, the life of a phone is two years.

5. Phone envy. If you can't take your hands off your boyriend...'s phone, you may need one for yourself.

Here are a few to consider:

Palm Pre (buy it now price, $334.95) The design is amazing and the latest version allows you to set up a wifi network anywhere the phone receives service! Forget having to plug in; all you need to do is be able to dial out.

iPhone 3GS (buy it now price, $480) With apps for just about everything from discovering new music to loosing weight, this phone does it all and makes listening to tunes and watching flicks a nice experience.

Blackberry Bold 9000(winning bid, $320) Those who love the Blackberry love this new version. I especially like the white color.

Google Nexus One (buy it now price, $689.01) If you use Google's products like Gmail and Google Docs, then this phone will weave its way easily into your everyday life like no other.  Enter your Google account info in once, and let the phone sync up your life. The Nexus one is also great for multi media and apps. Look out iPhone, this is one's on your tail .
