Manhattans and Martinis with "Mad Men"

Design trends have long taken cues from Hollywood, with both couture and street style referencing bygone eras. In these times of instant information, design trends travel fast and infiltrate every arena, from fashion and home design to food and drink and even dating and relationship trends (thank you, "Sex and the City").

Both the costumes and set design of AMC's "Mad Men" have had huge influences on runway fashion styles (ladylike looks) and everyday fashion trends (a renaissance of men's hats), and have contributed to the long lasting obsession with early‘60s home décor styles (Danish cabinetry, architectural screens, abstract painting, and tufted furniture).

Incessant design imitation doesn't end there; the "Mad Men" characters' lifestyle habits are now in vogue. No, adultery is still not chic; we referring to the cocktail. While the three-martini lunch is still frowned upon, trend seekers have been delighting in the cult of the cocktail. It seems as though everyone's loving cocktail drinks with names, along with plenty the bar paraphernalia with which to concoct them. (The "Mad Men" website even features a glossary of 1960's cocktails.)

"Don Draper shares (not coincidentally, I'm convinced) a famous namesake with the Mother of Modern Design, Dorothy Draper. And while the two have less in common than Joan and Peggy, the one thing they do share is a deep passion for the juxtaposition of masculine and feminine (and, of course, the mid-morning cocktail)," says interior designer Lori Graham.

eBay is replete with the tools for a "Mad Men bar": When we compared the past 30 days (9/28-10/27) with a 30 day period six months prior, we found that listings with the term "Mad Men" were up 121% and sales were up 174%, while listings with the term "Mad Men bar" were up 200% and sales are up 259%.)

And we've rounded up a selection of "Mad Men"-inspired barware before. But with holiday party (and gifting) season almost upon us, and a whole new crop of cocktail shakers and swizzle sticks available on eBay now, we couldn't resist taking another look.
