The Top 3 Trends at the Golden Globes

The Golden Globes, a normally low-key affair—at least as far as Hollywood goes—presenting statues over supper, kicked off awards season last night with so much sparkle and star power, it's hard to imagine how Golden Globe fashions get fancier from here.
True, the jewelry was a less blingy than the baubles trotted out for the Academy Awards, but the Golden Globe dressess were gorgeous, and fully formal. Celebs, who came to celebrate the year's best in television and film according to the Hollywood Foreign Press, which presents the awards, wore Golden Globe fashions featuring dramatic trains, shirred chiffon, shimmering paillettes, tiers of tulle, sequined sheer illusion, lengths of lace, and more than a few one-shouldered wonders.
As for color trends, jewel tones, especially emerald, made popular Golden Globe fashions; there were bursts of sapphire, too. Reds were of the fire-engine variety, contrasted with a few blacks that were anything but boring thanks to the edgy and asymmetric silhouettes.
While plenty of celebs stuck to the current craze for neutral nudes, others amped up the blush for peachy pink evening gowns with a lot more zing. It’s a hue fashion insiders classify as honeysuckle, the color Pantone color forecasters deemed number one for spring.

Catherine Zeta Jones, on the arm of husband Michael Douglas, were a full-skirted, strapless emerald ball gown in a sumptuous textured textile by Monique Lhuillier.
Angelina Jolie, clutching the hand of Brad Pitt, who hid behind shades on the red carpet, covered up in a sparkling long sleeve emerald green Versace. The color is reminiscent of the breathtaking Lorraine Schwartz $2.5 million oversize teardrop emerald earrings she wore to the Academy Awards two years ago.
Elisabeth Moss, nominated for Best Actress in a Television Drama for her role as naïve secretary made junior copywriter in AMC’s “Mad Men,” wore a figure hugging bias cut Donna Karan strapless gown in emarald green satin.
Mila Kunis, the dazzlingly brilliant nemesis of Natalie Portman in “Black Swan,” for which she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, opted for an emerald green Vera Wang with bow detailing on the shoulder.

About her look she said, “It’s how I always want to dress, in loose clothing.” Natalie Portman accented her Golden Globe fashion with red shoes by Stella McCartney, a red clutch, and diamond choker. The exquisite mom- and bride-to-be walked the red carpet solo and won for her role as the fragile ballerina in “Black Swan.”

Amy Adams, nominated for best actress for her role in “The Fighter,” once again went for full ruffles, wearing a glamorous navy Marchesa one-shouldered golden globe gown with laser-cut scallops at and hip. The body-conscious style with mermaid train showed off her svelte figure to perfection.
Voluptuous “Mad Men” actress Christina Hendricks rocked a red, one-shouldered Donna Karan gown with a major rosette, by bridal and eveningwear designer Romona Keveza. The fashion designer also outfitted fellow fuller figure star Jennifer Love Hewitt.
"Modern Family"'s Julie Bowen wore a Tadashi Shoji gown in a slightly sugary style, despite the taupey gray color. Rhinestone-embellished rosettes cascaded down the shoulder, as well as along the bottom portion of the gown.
Julia Stiles, nominated for her role in “Dexter,” wore a black evening gown with a ruffled, tulle shoulder strap that was elegant on top but got a bit too frou frou below.
