Spring 2011 is still a long, cold winter away for most of us, but in Austin, Texas this past weekend, it was 75 degrees and sunny. There, in what is known as the "Live Music Capital of the World," the rollicking Fun Fun Fun Fest celebrated it's 5th anniversary, with fashion-forward attendees partaking not only in the music, but also in many of the Spring 2011 fashion trends we aren't set to see for an entire season.
With over one hundred progressive and emerging musical acts sharing four stages in Austin’s sprawling Waterloo Park, the Fun Fun Fun Festival delivers music along with contests, comedy, stunts, graffiti painting, films, skateboarding and a delicious mix of local food trucks, all in the name of, quite simply put, fun.
This year’s Fun Fun Fun Festival eclectic line-up included Brazil’s influential Os Mutantes, who've played together since the late 1960s; Grammy-nominated British-American rapper Slick Rick; Brooklyn-based hipster favorites like Dirty Projectors and MGMT; a Queen tribute band called Magnifico; and to kick things off on Friday, night the godfather of goof, Weird Al Yankovic. (Iconic 80’s band Devo was set to play but cancelled due to a guitarist hand injury.)
The dynamic line-up at the Fun Fun Fun Festival created an interesting mix of nearly 15,000 fans. Babies and grandparents comingled with the hippest of Austin's hip. We spotted some familiar fashion trends: plaid shirts, silk scarves, lace up boots, nautical stripes, small leather cross-body bags, patterned tights and colored frame sunglasses to name a few.
But what felt new were girls dabbling in the trends, many lingerie-inspired—from black lace to white, nightie-like dresses to rompers— fashion trends we just witnessed coming down the runway. Check out our street-style shots paired with Spring 2011 runway inspiration images and eBay product picks.

We started seeing lace on the Fall 2010 runways, but the fashion trend is moving forward in a major way for Spring 2011 with the inclusion of crochet and other open-weave techniques joining more traditional lace patterns. We love that the little black dress is getting a facelift with lots of texture and details. And we love that depending on how you accessorize, you can wear it day or night.

We love the playful vintage vibe of the candy-striped sundress worn by this concert-goer. It perfectly reflects s the 1950's influence that fashion designers turned to for spring. A-line dresses and circle skirts, sweetheart necklines and bralet tops are feminine and flatter almost any shape.

White is a hot fashion trend for spring, and you can't go wrong with a crisp white dress you will turn to again and again. On the runways, fashion designers gave us options that ranged from Grecian draped elegance to gauzy bohemian ease. We love the way this girl paired hers with a lightweight denim shirt.

70’s vintage style ran rampant on designer runways for Spring. Earthy bohemian ease comingled with slinky, disco-inspired cool. It even seems possible that the skinny jean trend will be taking a break in favor of higher waists and trouser cuts. To avoid the costume effect, keep it simple and sophisticated. We like this festival-goer's take on the trend: She gives a nod to 70's icons Ali McGraw and Carly Simon but still looks modern.

Gucci produces one, if not several, stand-out designer bags each season, and this Spring, the brand trotted out gorgeous versions of western-influenced tooled leather bags. We spotted many at the Festival—the look felt particularly right here in the Lone Star State—and couldn't help but think it was an accessory trend worth noting. These vintage bags may not have the luxe Gucci hardware, but they also don't have the four-figure sticker shock.

With many major fashion designers showing lingerie-inspired looks for spring, we feel that the comfy, pajama-like romper, though certainly not for everyone, is still a relevant and chic choice for warm weather. The key is to keep rompers sophisticated but casual. We like how this girl kept it simple in navy with a bow detail, and the proportion of her cropped leather jacket is right on.
