A Christmas Story: A Very Retro Holiday Inspired by Our Favorite Seasonal Film

There are classic holiday films, and then there are classic holiday films that you watch, without fail, on repeat every year. "A Christmas Story" falls into the latter category as far as we’re concerned. Bob Clark’s 1983 spoof on the traditional family Christmas has spawned more one-liners and more humorous holiday merchandise (ahem, the scandalous leg lamp) than even seems possible. Brilliantly ridiculous scenes aside, however, the set and wardrobe of "A Christmas Story" have never felt more relevant than they do right now: Mrs. Parker’s calf-length skirts could have come from Marc Jacobs' runway; Flick’s leather aviator hat looks exactly like those being carried at Rag & Bone; and all of the 1940’s vintage antiques that fill the Parkers' home in Hammond, IN, could have been culled from eBay. At a time when everything old is new again, the 1940's Christmas depicted in "A Christmas Story" has managed to enter into inspirational territory—and we triple dog dare you not to get caught up in the holiday cheer. So once the presents have been unwrapped, and the same family stories have been told for the 15th time (just this year), break out "A Christmas Story" on DVD (or find the movie on cable) and then go shopping.
