New and Noteworthy: 3 Rookie Shows to Watch

This fall boasts the strongest primetime TV lineup we’ve seen in years. Yes, our standby hit shows are returning with a bang, but networks are also debuting buzz-worthy series that will surely remind you of past favorites. Here are three we’re anxious to screen:

"My Generation," Thursdays at 8/7c (ABC)

Watch if you liked: "My So-Called Life," "Dawson’s Creek" and "Friday Night Lights"

Hard to believe it’s already been 10 years since the millenniuman entire decade since the class of 2000 graduated from high school. These days, you’re more likely to follow 2000 grads on Facebook, but “My Generation” suggests a more sensational scenario: What if a documentary crew visited such students again and again and recorded the past 10 years’ worth of their lives’ up-and-downs on film? We’re guessing tons of drama.

Among the fictional documentary’s participants: Golden couple Anders Holt (Julian Morris) and Jackie Vachs (Jaime King), who live a privileged life but aren’t entirely satisfied. Also, did we mention that Anders and Jackie weren’t a couple until after graduation? When Anders’ high school sweetheart Brenda Serrano (Daniella Alonso) returns for the doc’s interviews, it causes some of Jackie’s old insecurities to resurface. Then there’s the former all-star athlete who’s been deployed to Iraq while his wife (also an alumnus) is pregnant with their first child, and the class of 2000 valedictorian whodespite everyone’s greater expectationshas retreated to a simple surf shack in Hawaii, where he bartends.

Check out the items on eBay that’ll bring you right back to your high school days and prep you for “My Generation”:

You might be wondering how an entire television series could be based on a single Twitter account. Well, it’s the same Twitter account that launched the number-one bestselling book “Sh*t My Dad Says” and currently boasts over 1.7 million followers. The feed, maintained by Justin Halpern, started when Justin was dumped by his then-girlfriend and forced to move in with his aging dad.

Brilliant casting has curmudgeonly former “Star Trek” actor William Shatner starring as foul-mouthed father Ed Goodsen. In well-meaning fits of swear-infused wisdom, Ed tries to help floundering son Henry (Jonathan Sadowski) get back on his own two feet. Be prepared: As gruff as Ed seems, his underlying sweetness and affection for his son are sure to tug at your heartstrings. And with other actors like Will Sasso and Nicole Sullivan rounding out the comic cast, expect this show to set records that compete with the founding Twitter account.

Every day is Father’s Day on “$#*! My Dad Says.” Send your pops a goofy gift inspired by the series premiere:

Bring your dad his next cold one in this sentimental mug that comes with its own bell. He’ll be the star of the next tailgating party.

Words made famous by grilling fathers everywhere deserve to be emblazoned on an apron.

"Old Guys Rule"we think William Shatner and his character Ed would agree.

Ladies, be prepared for the onslaught of jealousy that "Nikita" actress Maggie Q will inspire in you. You’ll want her hair, her body, her wardrobe and her general ass-kicking ability, to boot. Even her name in real life is the perfect spy alias. And as if it weren’t enough that she can actually walk in six-inch stilettos, the girl can sprintand jumpand punchin them, too.

That’s because Maggie plays the role of Nikita, a woman once rescued from death row by Division, a covert U.S. agency. Division trained her as a spy and assassin but later murdered her fiancé when they discovered she’d fallen in love with a civilian. After three years in hiding, Nikita’s out for revenge, but Division will do whatever it takes to keep their operations a secret and keep Nikita silenced. Their only problem? She’s not likely to stay quiet for long.
